Sending and receiving mail in Turkey
Hi,
Ready for a dumb question?
1. Sending mail: OK, in the UK, we buy a stamp from a shop, and put the letter in a postbox. What do we do over here - do we have to queue out the door at the PTT?
2. Receiving mail: I guess this is a bit more tricky. At our house just outside Yalikavak, we do not get mail - how do we find out if it's possible to get mail delivered to our house - and what's happening to our post now?
Many thanks,
Dave.

Re: Sending and receiving mail in Turkey
A friend of ours living " just outside Yalikavak" said they have a PO box at the PTT in Yalikavak.

Yes a PO box is the answer. They cost next to nothing and you get everything.

Re: Sending and receiving mail in Turkey
We got a PK box as we did not get any mail delivered. Further enquiries revealed that it is all delivered to a shop a few miles away and they just leave the sacks there. If we wanted mail we had to go and sort through the sacks. After a month anything that was left was returned to the PTT and I have no idea what happened to it then.
So I agree PK box is great, it was 10ytl deposit for the heys and 3ytl for the years rental..

Re: Sending and receiving mail in Turkey
Thanks - I assume it's a simple process at the PTT to get a PO/PK box?
And what about sending mail - do you have to queue every time for that?
Dave.

Hi from us!
Mail being sent fromTurkey will probably take several weeks to arrive at its destination! Letters from friends living in Turkey take about 2 weeks to get to us in UK - and yes you will need to visit the PO each time you want to mail.
Be sure to get that PO Box if you want to recieve mail.
See you very soon.

Re: Sending and receiving mail in Turkey
Mrs KKOB enquired about a PO box at the Fethiye PTT and we were told it would cost us 126ytl, but they hadn't any spare at the time. Our post for Kaya is "dropped off" at one of the village shops too. Hisaronu PTT have PO boxes too and we asked about one of them to be told they were only for residents of Ovacik and Hisaronu.
Have given up on a PO box now !
