We felt very welcomed, the person who took care of us had very impressive fluent English. We could not stay there long but we will definetely go back as soon as possible to try daily desserts and Turkish Dishes. All "Mom Made" as the guy said. I will let you all know about my visits to other restourants as well.

Welcome Jonathan and wife, hope you find lots of infor and make many friends on TLF. There are so many nice places to try in the area, also head off to Gumusluk and find the GONUCELEN, (never get the spelling right, lol), you will be made very welcome. Our favourites are Morgul Antik, great menu loads of choice, Gumusluk mentioned above, Mercan Storey, brothers 3, Kosede, and too many more to mention, but the adventure of finding them for yourselves is good fun, have to say we have never yet had a bad meal in Yalikavak or the surrounding area. Have fun on your stay.

No worries, I always do. I am very petite and do not even like to walk around the village in shorts, I respect the country I am in!!!

Re: Favourite Eateries in and around Yalikavak
Obviously one should disport ones self so as not to offend anyones sensibilities. In a tourist resort, during the holiday season, in a tourist restaurant one should expect people to be dressed as tourists. I believe in dressing to suit the occasion, decency apart i am not going to wear " Trisers " on holiday for anyone, don't even pack them.
If the gentleman referred to was exposing himself indecently i am ( knowing how Turks feel about such things ) amazed that the restaurant itself did not give him the
" Hampton Court " message.
Steve.

To be fair Steve, it's a bit like TV in Bars and Restaurants - you may not like them but you can't help but watch them!

Re: Favourite Eateries in and around Yalikavak
Holiday resort or not, I think it shows a lack of self respect not to tidy oneself up a bit for an evening meal. the type that go out to eat on holiday barely dressed are probably the ones that go out for an evening in the UK wearing tracksuit bottoms!
Back to thread topic!! All of the above serve good food I also like Sophies (Sophias?) at the Taskule Hotel.

Re: Favourite Eateries in and around Yalikavak
Well I have been in the UK since Tuesday ( flying visit - back on Monday ) and walking around the city centre I am appalled at some of the clothes that folks are wearing - ( OR NOT !!! ) Especially in the pubs and restaurants.
As a restauranter I have never had folks dressed in un appropriate gear in the evenings
I do know the 2 guys who are referred to - they eat in our place many times - during the day time it did not matter so much but when they came in the evening I did once point out to them that it was a little un polite to other customers to be dressed like that and they immediatly put their shirts on and every time after that they were repectable
in their dress code.
Jennifer - why didn"t you have a quiet word with Brenda - I am sure she would have
then had a word with them --- or just change table so you did not have to look !! lol

The Taskule is a very nice hotel, the manager showed us around, absolutely gorgeous. We've had a meal there a couple of years ago, when they used to do the Thursday night Bellydancer show, that was fun as they were guys, brilliant dancers, so that's one we'll have to try now, At this rate I'm going to have to extend our stay to get around them all. Hope you're still enjoying your extended stay, we'll have to get to-gether when we come out, arriving on the 10th July, only 7 more sleeps, lol.
Lesley

Re: Favourite Eateries in and around Yalikavak
I was not the host of our little gang that evening but the gentleman that was certainly did have a word with Brenda. He was not very pleased with the reply he received and I doubt if he will visit the restaurant again.
Also as there were eight of us dining together it would have caused a terrible fuss to try to change table.
The food was excellent however, and the company even more so.The night was not really spoiled but it is very interesting to read that many other people also feel uncomfortable with people who cannot dress appropriately.
