Say Cheese

Just love the TLF for coming up with the answers, so please dont let me down on this one.
Does anyone know of a cheese that is similar to cheddar. We have tried so many different ones and all seem very salty and mild. The white crumbly cheese is great but I would love to find a hard yellow cheese. Any ideas?
Many thanks and cannot wait to get over in 9 days and counting.

There is cheddar cheese in Migros and Tansas, its slices but not the rubbery one you have with burgers. I am a cheese snob but find this is ok. Bring some of your own too. You can freeze cheese .

Hello Mike, the cheese that Leslie mentioned that can be found in Migros is indeed Cheddar cheese it is in a flat plastic packet with tear off top, it is called "PINAR" 5 slices weighing 200gr. It is fairly expensive at 4.90tl, but then it's all relative if you really want it.

I really miss Cottage Cheese when I'm in Turkey. I did find one in Kippa that was ok for cooking with, but don't kn ow the name. Go to the market and ask to try a few.

Try Eski Penir. I prefer the Sutas brand having tried several others including Migros own brand, but it is more expensive.

I have been going to Cingiloglu ( uhoh spelt wrong ?? and without Turkish letters) since they were one cheese stand in the Bodrum market, now they have their spotless shops and in Yalikavak, and Turgutreis I believe. I usually buy the 'orta' beyaz peynir - medium salty white chees/feta, then the mature cheese - Tulum- sometimes it is Bergama Tulum. They have a great smoked cheese and a walnut cheese. In season now is a big plastic bag of LOR cheese- very close to ricotta/ cottage cheese not salty, and very smooth. I just buy what I like the taste of.. a friend believes that Turkey has as many cheeses as France.

I have seen Imported Mozarella in Migros - beside the mascarpone- but at prices that would hurt to touch it!

We have triesd the 'rope' or plait cheese- often in Tansas, that has the stringy effect of Mozarella.

Would love to hear of a substitute/ resipe for mascarpone.....
