Re: who will be spending christmas alone

Dave,

Surround yourself with as many good friends as you can, mate.
Christmas is what you make it!

I have a few pals who, through divorce or bereavement, are on their own and that is what they try and do.

There must be many on here, who are separated by the miles, from their families, but not separated by the heart!

All the best and enjoy your day at Mustis.

Dave

Re: who will be spending christmas alone

Look at it this way
It's better to spend it with friends you choose to be with, than some relatives you're forced to be with.
Have fun

Re: who will be spending christmas alone

On the other hand there must be many people like me who have allways worked over xmas and new year it being a busy time--after moving to kusadasi last year was my first xmas free after a lot of years and i thoroughly enjoyed just pleasing myself and slobbing round the apartment in jamas all day--i find i do appreciate periods of solitude to read and or watch tv \dvd,s--i dont seem to get lonely living alone and know there is allways a bar or cafe close by where i can go if i want a natter.I am not a great lover of xmas finding it over commercialised and after all it is based on a pack of lies.I do realise however that some people absolutely hate being alone --i am thankfully not one of them--like many others i have also lost a lot of friends and family along the way due to bereavement especially these last couple of years--but if you really hate living alone you have to get out there and meet people--they aint going to come knocking on your door--you have to get out there and hope the right one comes along--but for now im enjoying the quietness of out of season kusidasi-so xmas is another ba humbug from me this year lol

Re: who will be spending christmas alone

I spent many christmases on my own in the past and found that the best way of dealing with it all was to do something for other people. So I used to volunteer for our local Salvation Army hall where they provide a christmas lunch for mainly elderly people who have nowhere else to go. I used to go and fetch the elderly folk, help serve lunch, and then when they were about to say thier prayers (I'm not personally religious) they would say 'time for your fag break' and I would go outside until they had done. Then I would ferry the elderly folk back along the seafront to take in the christmas lights.
It helped me get over a difficult time of the year to hope that I had done something worthwhile and given a little cheer to some people worse off than myself.

Re: who will be spending christmas alone

I loved Christmas as a child - it was thrilling - I had family then. I loved Christmas when my daughter was child - I joined in all the hype and I enjoyed it then.

My family diminished - my daughter grew up - and I turned! I have not liked Christmas for years now and woe betide you if you say it out loud! Bah humbug normally is the response - but I can take that.

The Christmas hype in the UK has for years put pressure on the homeless, the vunerable and families on low incomes - more divorces and suicides at Christmas time than any other time of the year. Too much pressure and the essence of what it's supposed to be about has got lost on the masses IMO. It's a religious holiday afterall.

If you spend Christmas on your own it's ****e. All you can hope for is that the time passes quickly. Like you Dave I will be spending the time with friends here on Christmas day eating and drinking, but in all honesty I can't say I will feel any excitement - it's just another day for me.
