Re: Furnishing
Lawrence, we made the trip to Ikea from Yalikavak and it was certainly well worth it for us. We knew exactly what we wanted since we had visited our Ikea store here in Germany before going out to Turkey. We bought a three-seater sofa, two armchairs, various bits and pieces for the kitchen and bathroom. We got a Turkish friend to ring them in advance to check that the things we wanted were available. Service was friendly and helpful, with a couple of young chaps even packing the furniture on to the pickup for us. We will probably go back again in May or June for another load of stuff.

Re: Furnishing
Hi Lawrence
Welcome to the forum, sure you will enjoy your time time on here.
We bought our flat 5 yrs back, and bought all of our furnishings in Altinkum n Didum, white goods, wardrobes, beds, cabinets, tables, chairs, the whole caboodle, furnished the flat throughout inside 1 week, fortunately we have Turkish friends who came with us for most of our goods, and advised us where to go etc, it was a big plus.
The one good thing when we bought everything, was, it was delivered within half an hour of us buying, none of this waiting for 6 weeks delivery lark, all deliveries were carried into the flat and positined to wherever we required, and all done by the guys with big smiles on their faces, some service, needless to say I gave all of them a tip.
However, each to their own as they say, but we have never encountered any probs with any of our goods since we bought, wish you luck, whatever you decide.
Cheers Peter

Re: Furnishing
Its a question of personal taste but Ikea stuff always looks a bit bland and sanitised to me.
Buy locally in Turkey in your area or close by and get to know the real businesses around your way. Its fun and you are probably getting stuff more individual and in keeping with a Turkish property.
Local delivery and service is usually brilliant and you get more attention to detail and a personal touch you wouldnt get from Ikea as a rule.
Enjoy it.

Re: Furnishing
Were on Orkide and we visited Ikea but only got a mirror and some crockery. Next to Ikea is the hypermarket Kippa and that is worth a look around as some bargains for DVD and televisions and some fantastic TV stands very unusual.

Re: Furnishing
We have just come back from a furnishing trip. Our villa is in Amos, nr Turunc and we found most of what we wanted in Marmaris. I think the shop was called Caglar and they were brilliant, funky designs and very reasonable.
Beds were extremely well made and have storage underneath. Crockery and bought from Migros, kettles, irons, Goose down duvets etc (it was freezing in March) All deliveries were prompt and as promised even though we are out in the sticks. Ikea is fine for the odd bit of furniture, crockery etc but on the whole I'm glad we could get some individual designs which make the Villa interesting and personal.

Hi Peter,
Could you tell use which shops you used, as we are going out to Altinkum in late september to pick furniture for our apartment. So any help would be grateful.
We want to have traditional turkish furniture in our apartment

Re: Furnishing
I furnished one of my apartments with a 'package' through Parador and was very happy with it but I didn't want identical furnishings in the second property so I bought locally from Altinkum. Everything was delivered and installed promptly - we even hitched a lift in the lorry to get back to Akbuk! I find furniture standards are very high and if you buy late in the season you can pick up some amazing bargains.
