Property Keys

Hi Guys, we are just about to make our first visit to to our appartment (can't wait). I was wondering what other people have done about changing door locks - have you used a local supplier, the builder or DIY? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Dave

Hi, Door locks here are a very easy job and do not need tradesmen. You will probably find you have a barrell lock either through the PVC door or wood etc. In the side of the door,(the opening edge) there is a screw. You simply undo the screw and knock the barrell out.Replace as in reverse order. A new barrell lock costs circa 7ytl.

Wow, that's what I call a speedy response - thanks. It sounds simple enough, guess that I'd better bring a screwdriver (which sounds like a good idea anyway!)

Re: Property Keys

We have not bothered changing the locks yet, its ok to change locks if you have someone out there who can gain entrance in an emergency like for instance a water leak, or damage to your property or to even have a look to see if all is ok. We have had some small problems and have been really grateful that the keys were in the office otherwise it would have meant us getting flights out just for a day. If you are going to change locks I would consider a keyholder.

It's most important to change your locks. We didn't and a few months later found interior photos of my house on an agents web site with my possessions clearly in the photo. I hadn't given anyone permission to enter and take those pictures so you never know who has a spare key.

Pop into Didim and there is a harware shop there, right at the main traffic lights and its only about 20 yards on the right, a barrel lock is all you need....it comes with 5 keys...only a few pounds and it will take you less than 5 minutes to change this, undo the screw (situated on the side edge of the door)....push out the lock.....refit the screw.......job done.

If there are several apartments in your block (or a neighbour in another block) and you know the owner you could ask to change the lock with theirs, most doors have 2 locks and the chances of anyone who has keys (builders or tradesmen) getting to use keys that they have would be unlikely as different locks now on the door.

Enjoy your new home.
